Blueberry season: it’s an exciting time of year in Nova Scotia, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome this versatile and tasty berry into our baking, cooking, and snacking!

Tasting Notes

Whether you are at a farmer’s market or in the produce aisle in grocery store, choose blueberries that are dry, plump and dent free. Avoid berries that are wet, puckered, or dark blue. Blueberries are delicious in both sweet and savoury dishes, whether it is for breakfast, lunch, supper, and desserts. They are not only known for their tangy taste but also have tremendous health benefits as a great source of antioxidants, potassium and vitamin C.

Suggestions

Use blueberries as a fresh topping on oatmeal, waffles, pancakes, yogurt, or cereal for an extra burst of flavour and nutrition.

  • Blueberry chia smoothie: 1 banana + ½ cup blueberries + 1 tsp peanut butter + 1 Tbsp chia seeds. Place all ingredients in a blender, pulse until smooth and serve.

  • Spinach salad with blueberries is a great side dish for a summer BBQ!
