We inspire and equip young people in Nova Scotia to learn about food and transform the food systems around them.
Having nutritious food is fundamental to the well-being of young people — but over one-third of Nova Scotia children live in food-insecure households.
And despite the power of food in supporting wellbeing, many young people do not have opportunities to learn important food knowledge that builds essential life skills and helps them have positive experiences with food.
This is why Nourish Nova Scotia helps young people learn about food and transform the food systems around them. We do this through food literacy programs, advocacy, and building supportive food environments.
Youth who understand and engage with local food systems can become powerful drivers of change. When they have access to nourishing food, meaningful opportunities to explore it, and a voice in the systems that affect them, they can transform how food is grown, shared, and celebrated in their schools and communities. Empowering that change is at the heart of what we do.
