As the scope of our work continues to grow, our team does too! Meet our new staff member Lindsay, a dietitian with a passion for gardening, cooking and all things food.

Q: What inspired you to work at Nourish?

I have always been impressed with the great work that Nourish accomplishes in schools and communities across the province and was very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the team. As a dietitian, I have worked in many different sectors and through my experiences I have come to appreciate the importance of an upstream, population health approach. I think Nourish accomplishes this in a creative, caring and collaborative manner.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Nourish?

No two days at the Nourish office are alike! From working with community partners, planning for programming, developing resources, or just talking food there is always something on the go. I feel fortunate to work with fellow staff, board members, and volunteers who adapt to community needs, and truly care about the work they do.

Q: What work at Nourish that you have been involved with, are you most proud of?

One my focus areas as a Program Development Coordinator with Nourish is school food advocacy. We are in the process of building and shaping a Nova Scotia network to advocate for a Canada-wide healthy school food program. This is an exciting opportunity for Nova Scotia to have a voice at the table. I am always inspired by support and passion from all corners of the province to improve our food systems and create better environments for Nova Scotia children and youth to live, learn and play!

Bonus Q: What is a fun fact about you that not many people know?

Not only do I love to cook, but I have a passion for growing my own food! At my previous home I had a backyard garden, where I grew a variety of produce every year. I enjoy the challenge gardening presents from the weather, soil conditions, garden pests and my own dog Maya who enjoys stealing peas and kale straight out of the garden. Gardening is like a big puzzle, a constant opportunity to learn and get tasty results along the way! I have recently purchased a new home and I am already making plans for a new garden come Spring.
