Volunteer Spotlight - Sue Vincent

Sue joined the Nourish team as a volunteer in October, 2020 having recently moved back to the Annapolis Valley. As a member of the Business Team, Sue brought her accounting background and wealth of knowledge, and has since became the team’s co-lead. We are very thankful for the expertise she brings to the Nourish family!

We asked Sue a few questions about her volunteer work.

What drew you to get involved with Nourish?

I moved my family back to Nova Scotia a year ago. We had been living in the United States for the last 20 years. I have young kids and when we toured Wolfville school as part of the onboarding for the school year last year, the principal was proudly highlighting the breakfast program and healthy snacks available to all of the kids. I did a little research to find out what wonderful organization was supporting this and I found Nourish!

Why is Nourish special to you?

I am a huge believer in the link between nutrition and learning. I’m also convinced that if you teach your kids early on about the importance of what they feed their bodies and the impact that it will have on their overall health, it establishes a foundation of healthy choices that they will use for the rest of their lives (and hopefully pass along to their kids)! I was on the board of a similar organization in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and I really wanted to continue to support this important mission at home here in Nova Scotia.

What Nourish projects and programs are you involved with now?

I’m a member of the Business Team, a member of the Nourish Bluenose Marathon event team and a lead volunteer for a Nourish Your Roots pick up location here in the Annapolis Valley.

What words of wisdom would you like to share with someone who is interested in learning about volunteering with Nourish?

Absolutely do it! Nourish is an amazing organization with phenomenal people. Everyone has made me feel very welcome. It’s a great feeling to be able to contribute to an organization with such an important mission.
