Volunteer Spotlight - Andrea Francheville

Andrea is a former staff-turned-volunteer with Nourish. She sits on the Volunteer Team which is responsible for leading volunteer engagement for Nourish, and supported Nourish Your Roots Community pickups this past fall by volunteering at pick up locations rain or shine.

We asked Andrea a few questions about her volunteer work.

What drew you to Nourish NS?

I was lucky enough to join the  staff of Nourish in 2018. It was through this role, I learned about all of the amazing things this powerful team of staff and volunteers can accomplish.

Why is Nourish special to you?

A number of amazing relationships were created during my time with Nourish. Although I am no longer on staff, I am lucky to be a member of the Volunteer Team. Although in a different capacity, I love following what the organization is up to, and how they are changing how Nova Scotia (and beyond!) looks at food.

The team is fantastic!

What Nourish initiatives/work are you most proud of?

When I was a staff member with Nourish, we had the opportunity to volunteer at a Bluenose water station. This was such a great time, and a perfect chance to see some of the runners who were fundraising for NourishNS.

What other volunteer organizations have you been involved with?

I am an animal activist, and had spent a number of years volunteering with the French Bulldog Rescue Network. I am currently volunteering with North Mountain Animal Sanctuary and Wallflower Sanctuary.

What words of wisdom do you have for someone who is interested in learning more about volunteering with Nourish?

Jump in! Even if you don’t feel your skills are necessarily aligned with nutrition, there are so many other ways you can give back. Plus, you will meet some amazing folks and be able to change how Nova Scotians look at food.
