Volunteer Spotlight: Hannah (Volunteer Team)

April is Volunteer Month! That’s why we are taking the time to spotlight some of our incredible volunteers and what inspires them to be a part of the Nourish team. This week’s spotlight is all about Hannah, a member of our in-house Volunteer Team since December.

Q: What drew you to get involved with Nourish?

Food as it relates to my joy of cooking, and my desire to create a more equitable and flourishing Nova Scotia drew me to become involved with Nourish. I am very passionate about providing access to a more abundant life for all Nova Scotians. Supporting youth to establish healthy relationships with food, and providing access to nourishing food early in life is an important step.

Q: What motivates you to continue to volunteer? What is your favourite part of volunteering?

Volunteers help to fill the gaps where policy does not address the needs of Nova Scotians. I love volunteering and building relationships with members of my community who I might not otherwise have the chance to meet and learn from.

Q: What other volunteer work do you do?

I also volunteer with the Mobile Food Market, helping with the Seniors Food Box program

Q: What words of wisdom would you like to share with someone who is interested in learning about volunteering with Nourish?

Nourish provides incredible support for new volunteers. They provide useful information for onboarding, and friendly communication to welcome any questions. Volunteering with Nourish is a great way to meet like minded people in your community and to support their important work.

Q: What’s your favourite food or favourite thing to cook?

I love cooking a lot of different dishes to share with a group of people, family style! Sitting around a table with friends sharing flavours is one of my favourite things to do. Lately I have been inspired by local independent grocery stores and cookbooks, and have been cooking a lot of Middle Eastern foods.
