- Nourish Champions
Meet Jemima & Remy
Meet Jemima, Nourish Nova Scotia’s Office Administrator and this year’s Blue Nose Team Captain, and her son Remy, a grade eight student in Halifax. Jemima has been a champion of Nourish Nova Scotia’s mission long before she joined the team 2.5 years ago—she’s been coordinating her local school’s breakfast program for the past 7 years. While this Blue Nose Marathon marks a third year for Jemima, doubling up for a 5K and a 10K run, this will be Remy’s first time and he’s looking forward to having a fun 5km race with his mom! She’ll be doing her best to keep up with the young buck as they race toward a healthier future, one stride at a time! Jemima and Remy were happy to share their story below.

“Remy, look natural for this photo!”
What race did you sign up for and why?
Remy – I signed up for the 5K run for the first time. I love to run and I get to have fun with my mom.
Jemima – This year I signed up for the 5K, which I am running with my son, Remy, and the 10K for an extra challenge the next day. Signing up for races gives me an end goal and helps motivate me to train.
What do you like about the Blue Nose Marathon, if you've participated before?
Jemima – I love the energy of the crowd at the start line. But the best part of the run is seeing all the smiling and cheering spectators who come out to support perfect strangers achieve their goals. They affirm that the world is full of good people. They all deserve Blue Nose medals!
What motivates you to be active/run?
Remy – I like to get my heart beating faster and pumping blood.
Jemima – I’m motivated to run primarily for my mental health; the physical benefits are a bonus. Running helps me relieve stress, clear my mind, and stay grounded so I can better handle daily challenges.
What is your favourite motivational quote?
Remy – “Don’t let the muggles get you down.” — Ron Weasley.
Jemima – “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” —Margaret Mead.
What is your go-to running song or what are you listening to right now?
Remy – I like to listen to Rave by DXRK. It’s got deep beats, and it gets you running smooth and steady.
Jemima – I normally like to listen to podcasts that focus on the human experience like “A Slight Change of Plans,” by Dr. Maya Shankar, or the “Happiness Lab,” by Dr. Laurie Santos. But if I’m in the mood for running music, K-pop is my go-to! Yes, you read that right.
What is your favourite post-run snack?
Remy – After a run I grab about 2 or 3 granola bars with chocolate chips. They are chewy and fill me up.
Jemima – The best post run stack…or meal…is poached eggs and toast with a little cheese and slice of tomato. It’s so satisfying!
What is a food story you cherish?
Remy – My family was posted to rural Belgium when I was 6, and we had a little raspberry bush in our backyard. I used to play in that big backyard all day and snack on raspberries whenever I wanted a sweet snack. Raspberries from the store have never tasted as good as those.
Jemima – Throughout my children’s elementary school years, we volunteered together in the School Breakfast Program. Each morning, we helped nourish kids with more than just food. The simple act of sharing a meal created space for connection, friendship, and community. That experience taught us the true value of service, the joy of showing up for others, and how food can be a powerful foundation for belonging.
