What drew you to get involved with Nourish Nova Scotia?
My journey to becoming a registered dietitian landed me at Nourish Nova Scotia! The Applied Human Nutrition and Dietetics Internship Education Program at Mount Saint Vincent University matched me to Nourish for my population and public health placement, and I couldn’t be happier with this pairing. As a university student I also enjoyed volunteering with Nourish Nova Scotia at night baking sessions for school breakfast programs. I could not have had a better mentor (and holiday desk decorating partner) than Emily!
How has your experience with Nourish impacted you personally?
My experience with Nourish Nova Scotia has given me lifelong connections and avenues of support! It has enriched my viewpoint of the vast impact of community/non-for-profit organizations at large. It has impacted me personally as my time at Nourish Nova Scotia taught me strong working relationships and has given me opportunities to stay connected and be a part of the newsletter this month!
How do you see young people helping to influence food systems today?
I see young people helping shape and influence our food system today through at the hands-on level. Seeing the vide variety of age groups and diverse backgrounds and stories within programming speak volumes beyond the youth in attendance. Amplifying these voices in advocacy is paramount in driving food systems change and continuing to engage youth in the meaningful ways Nourish Nova Scotia does is a valuable step towards the future.
What was your biggest take-away from your time at Nourish Nova Scotia?
My biggest takeaway from my time at Nourish Nova Scotia is how impactful the right partnerships can be. Weaving shared values and goals with the expertise and collaboration through Nourishes wide variety of community partners not only enhances the quality and expansion of the work but gets closer to the goal and theory of change for youth to inspire and equip young people in Nova Scotia to learn about the transform the food systems around them.
