Farm to School Snack

Enhance your school’s snack time with a burst of local flavour through our Farm to School Snack Program!

The Farm to School Snack Program brings fresh Nova Scotia produce into school snack time. Each month, students get the chance to taste fresh, locally grown produce from Nova Scotia farms while learning about how different fruits and vegetables grow.

From juicy ground cherries to crunchy bell peppers, crisp kale, and vibrant rainbow carrots, students are offered a variety of fruits and vegetables to experience and enjoy.

Each snack comes with an info sheet that details how it was grown, how it is enjoyed around the world, fun facts, and video resources for teachers.

In each school, Farm to School Snack is run by dedicated volunteers with ongoing support from our Farm to School Coordinator.

"For the past five years, we at Glooscap have been the fortunate recipients of fresh local produce and fresh local agricultural information through the Farm to School program. This program has given our students the exposure to tasty fresh fruits and vegetables grown nearby which many would not have had the opportunity to try. The produce is always presented in a colorful, enticing manner and kids are encouraged to use their five senses to enjoy these flavorful treats. The information that is provided on the origin of the fruit or vegetable helps to broaden our students' knowledge and world view."
