Volunteer Spotlight: Janet Music
Janet Music is the Research Program Co-ordinator for the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University. She recently started volunteering with the Nourish Communications Team.
We asked Janet a few questions about her volunteer work!
What drew you to get involved with Nourish NS?
I spend a lot of time researching different foodscapes in Canada from an academic perspective. It’s easy to forget that food is about people! I love how Nourish brings together different stakeholders – children, farmers, educators etc. – on the foundational principle that everyone deserves healthy, locally-grown food.
Why is Nourish special to you?
Programs that support childhood development and education don’t receive enough funding or attention. I want to be part of an organization that amplifies the work of those who feed growing bodies and minds.
What words of wisdom do you have for someone who is interested in learning more about volunteering with Nourish NS?
Food offers a connection to the land, our friends, family and neighbours. Healthy food enables us to be our best selves. Nourish NS presents an opportunity to have hands-on experience teaching children about healthy eating in a fun, nurturing environment.
