Volunteer Profile - Alanah Barton

Meet Alanah, one of Nourish’s valuable volunteers. She sits on the Volunteer Team which is responsible for leading volunteer engagement for Nourish, and is new to the role of Volunteer Team Lead. Alanah is also quick to offer up assistance in any other way she can including volunteer recognition and food scans.

We asked Alanah a few questions about her volunteer work.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I am currently a Dietetic Intern with NSHA and Acadia University. I have graduated from Acadia University with a BSN & Dietetics and from Niagara College Culinary Management Diploma program. I have a strong love for food and the potential it has to provide us with a happy and healthy life.

What drew you to Nourish NS?

The idea that we can impact the lives of our children through healthy eating and teach them about healthy eating for a healthy future.

Why is Nourish special to you?

The volunteer team is an amazing group of people who come up with some of the greatest ideas to help improve the impact of food in our school systems. I am provided with multiple opportunities to provide ideas and give back to my community.

What Nourish initiatives/work are you most proud of?

Having the opportunity to create a video about Pantry Staples during the pandemic for our 2020 volunteers.

What other volunteer organizations have you been involved with?

I raised money for Feed NS during Christmas by giving a portion of my cookie sales to Feed NS. I am not currently involved with any other organization.
