Staff Spotlight: Meet Stacie
Stacie started working at Nourish Nova Scotia in November 2024 as the Youth Engagement Coordinator. Originally from Saint John, NB, she has lived in Halifax, NS since 2013. Stacie loves hockey and is a HUGE Swifty. She’s excited to bring her experience of engaging with youth to Nourish Nova Scotia to enhance programming and to help lead the next generation in becoming food leaders.
What drew you to get involved with Nourish?
I have always been inspired by the impact Nourish makes on young people across the province when it comes to food systems education. I’ve been involved in youth engagement efforts with school food in the past and wanted to be involved with overhauling how Nourish engages youth in their programming.
What is a food story you cherish?
Every Christmas, my mom and I make chocolate truffles, which is one of the few times a year we bake. It’s an annual tradition we took a break from last year, but I’m looking forward to getting back to it this year.
How do you see young people helping to influence food systems today?
Young people are the future and will make a significant impact on policy changes when it comes to food systems. Many of them are already focusing more on sustainability and locally sourced options, which is a massive shift from previous generations. This will not only have an impact on food, but on climate change as well.
If you could wave a magic wand and make your dream come true, what would you wish would be for the food landscape in Nova Scotia?
I would love to see a reduction in the use of or the elimination of the need for food banks in our province. This would move us toward a food-secure environment and the opportunity for many individuals to learn new cooking skills and food knowledge.
Is there anything you love to grow or cook?
I love cooking lasagna from scratch, as it is a great meal that incorporates a lot of flavour and is great to freeze for future meals.
