Staff Spotlight: Welcome Emily!

Emily Stevens (she/her) recently joined our team as our Program Development Coordinator. Emily grew up on the Eastern Shore and completed her nutrition and dietetics degree at Mount Saint Vincent University and her dietetic internship with the Nova Scotia Health Authority. We asked her a few questions to get to know her -

What drew you to get involved with Nourish?

I was drawn to the work that Nourish does to advocate for equal school food access, to foster healthy food environments, and promote food literacy. Before pursuing my nutrition education, I worked with youth within education and literacy. This role at Nourish combines my passions for community nutrition and youth education and advocacy. It feels like the perfect fit and I am excited to continue this work!

What is one thing you’ve learned through your connection to Nourish?

Although I have only been with Nourish for a short time, one thing that has become clear is the power of youth engagement in this work, and how impactful it is for youth to be able to play a role and take ownership over their school food programs. I am excited to be involved in empowering youth to be a part of creating healthy school food environments.

When you were 8 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was 8 years old, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Although that's not the field I pursued as an adult, I think 8-year-old me would still be happy with where we are today!
