Giving Tuesday NOW
Thank you for supporting Nourish’s Giving Tuesday NOW campaign!
On Tuesday May 5, Nourish friends and supporters came together to help strengthen our Nourish community through kindness and generosity.
The impact of Covid-19 means we have had to cancel many community engagement events, including our largest annual fundraising event this spring, the Bluenose Scotiabank Charity Challenge. We are now facing a financial shortfall for this year. We rely on these funds to help support many of our programs but in particular Nourish Your Roots (NYR) our farm-to-school fundraising program for schools. Over 100 schools rely on this healthy fundraiser to generate revenue for food programs such as school breakfast and snacks, school gardens, cooking skills, and food literacy opportunities. Last year, funds raised by NYR helped sustain all of these initiatives, the majority going to purchase food for school breakfast programs. Last year over 6.3 breakfast meals were served to children in Nova Scotia schools. That’s a lot of eggs, toast, apples and cereals!
While it is clear that NYR has a direct impact on children and youth through school these food programs, NYR has a broader impact on food production in Nova Scotia. Each year, NYR helps local farmers deliver over 325,000 lbs of produce to a ready-made market. NYR helps connect farms to schools and in turn, connects schools to their community. All of this produce is sold in thousands of boxes, providing families with fresh local food.
Right now, we can make a difference together and help NYR thrive this fall. To support the NYR program through our #GTN campaign click here to DONATE.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity from your friends at Nourish Nova Scotia.
