The Impact of a Blueberry

A few years ago I knew all the work was worth it when I saw a family there picking containers of blueberries and I realized this may be the only fresh fruit their kids get to eat. Each September I always have various students tell me that they picked blueberries during the summer and what they did with them. This year I had a student bring me a blueberry muffin she said she made with her mom from blueberries from our garden! This same family had frozen some the year before and brought them to our cafeteria manager in the fall to bake with for the school. I love going to school in the summer and seeing families or students there picking high bush blueberries and strawberries. A few of the soccer players always tell me they go eat a few strawberries after their games in the summer!
