The Grow Eat Learn Trailer in Scotsburn

This summer, the Grow Eat Learn Trailer made its debut at Scotsburn Trailhead Park, spending a month supporting youth, food, and community projects. It quickly became part of the summer scene during an exciting time for this rural village—serving cold drinks on hot days and acting as a hub for gatherings.

During its stay, the trailer served as a meal centre for Dalhousie University’s School of Architecture Free Lab, hosted by Scotsburn Recreation Club and 100 Folk Farm. Students raised a timber-frame pergola, tested hempcrete, and contributed designs for a new low-carbon community centre to replace the hall damaged by Hurricane Fiona—all while being nourished with meals served out of the trailer by Stone Soup Café and Catering.

The trailer also supported Garden Mentor programming and other activities at the Scotsburn Community Food Forest, a grassroots initiative dedicated to creating an edible and medicinal gathering and learning space for current and future generations. Raina McDonald hosted a Seed Saving Gathering, where knowledge was shared and herbal iced teas from the garden were enjoyed. The trailer provided a welcoming backdrop—complete with fresh bouquets and refreshments—for youth art in the park and community singing.

The month wrapped up with a Pizza + Pollinator Party, bringing families and neighbors together to celebrate food, pollinators, and community connection.

As one participant shared:

“I’m so grateful for the Nourish Nova Scotia trailer and for Raina’s warm, thoughtful facilitation. From the care and generosity of the refreshments during the BodySong Circle, to the joy of sharing fresh pizza and connecting with other kids and families with my four-year-old, these moments at the Scotsburn Community Food Forest nourished both body and heart, and created a true sense of belonging.”

The Grow Eat Learn Trailer’s activation in Scotsburn was a resounding success—offering both lessons learned and lived experience of what it means to be a hub for nourishment, creativity, and connection.
