Our Story
Nourish Nova Scotia was established in 2013 to support the development of school breakfast programs across the province. Our mission was born out of the passion and determination of dietitians and nutritionists, community members, and the provincial government who believed in the right for all young people to be well-nourished, and reach their full potential in the classroom and in life.

Over time, we have expanded our work to help cultivate healthy eating environments for children and youth across Nova Scotia – through advocacy, capacity building, food literacy, and fund development. Today, we work across school and community settings to increase access to nutritious foods; create welcoming spaces for youth to connect through food; and facilitate youth leadership in food programs and policies that affect them.
We play an active role in food systems advocacy, with established networks of partners across local, provincial and national levels. We facilitate youth leadership in food programs and events, and have developed a robust set of tools and resources to support food literacy education.
With our strong foundation, we see opportunities to build on past successes to reach more young people, contribute to supportive spaces for youth leadership in food, and amplify youth voices in food system advocacy.
Our mission is to inspire and equip young people in Nova Scotia to learn about food and transform the food systems around them.
We are always looking for people and organizations to partner with and support our programs. Will you join us?
