Program Development Coordinator

(Maternity Leave)

The Position

Nourish Nova Scotia (Nourish) is looking for a Program Development Coordinator, PDC, who is a creative thinker and highly motivated operator with demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills to support development, implementation and sustainability of school based healthy eating programs. The PDC, through superior communication and collaboration skills, will work with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders to build capacity for programs and advocate for healthy public policy designed to improve the nutritional health and well-being of Nova Scotia’s children and youth.

Position start date: Maternity leave coverage, starting April 2020 (8-month term position)

About Us

Nourish Nova Scotia is a registered charity and a provincial partner for school based healthy eating programs. Our goal is to support the nutritional well-being of children and youth and to build their food knowledge and skills so they can feed themselves well into a healthier future.

 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

 ·     Operationalizes the strategic and organizational goals of Nourish, through leadership, project management and coordination functions

·     Supports a network of regional school/health representatives and program based volunteers to build capacity for school based healthy eating programs (SHEP) province-wide

·     Leads the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of SHEP together with partners and stakeholders

·     Builds and maintains key relationships with regional and provincial partners

·     Contributes to the development of policies and guidelines that help to shape a healthy school food environment

·     Seeks funding opportunities and partnerships to support the mandate of Nourish, including grant writing, presentations and proposals

·     Builds and shares knowledge in regards to research, policy and best practices for SHEP

·     Ensures program reports, correspondence and deliverables as per contractual agreements with the provincial government and other partners are fulfilled

·     Supports communications related to the activities of Nourish and its partners

 

This full time position will be based out of the Nourish office in Bedford, Nova Scotia and requires some travel throughout the province. Evening and weekend work may be required from time to time.

 

Required Qualifications and Competencies 

·     A post secondary degree in a related health discipline: Health Promotion/Nutrition

·     Several years’ experience in community development and/or school-based nutrition environment

·     Knowledge and experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation

·     Demonstrated understanding of the Nova Scotia food policy environment, including the School Food and Nutrition Policy for NS Public Schools

·     Knowledge and application of population health and the social determinants of health

·     Demonstrated facilitation skills

·     Highly developed communication skills - written, verbal and interpersonal, with an aptitude for social platforms

·     Strong ability to engage others and build relationships - internally and externally

·     Previous experience working in or with the not for profit sector

·     Proven leadership skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently

·     Excellence in strategic and critical thinking with a demonstrated ability to solve problems and make timely decisions

·     Proficient computer aptitude and office skills - Microsoft Office, creative design i.e., canva, pictochart.

·     Passionate about creating healthy learning environments for Nova Scotia children and youth

·     French language skills and education sector experience are definite assets
