The Food and Nutrition Policy for Nova Scotia Public Schools recognizes that nutrition, health, and learning are linked. Children and youth need healthy foods to learn, grow, develop and be physically active. Schools help prepare students to be healthy, productive and responsible citizens. Healthy, nourished students who feel safe are better able to learn, perform in class and attend school more regularly. Those who achieve higher levels of education tend to experience better health as adults. The intent and spirit of the Food and Nutrition Policy for Nova Scotia Public Schools is to create and support an environment where students can access healthy foods during the school day to sustain the energy and concentration required for learning.
