entrepreneurship & learning in the garden

School / Community: South-End Community Garden

The South-End Community Garden Program is sponsored by the Tri-County Women’s Centre which involves eight youth between the ages of 9 and 13 years. The main focus is for the youth to have their own summer business, to learn about gardening, nutrition, working as a team and the value of hard work. It is important that the youth participate in all activities while showing good behavior and to attend the program on a regular basis. These youth learn the planting, harvesting and selling of vegetables. The youth worked in the garden twice a week in August, harvesting and selling vegetables. They sold their vegetables at the Farmer’s Market four weekends in row, to seniors, friends, relatives and the local grocery store in South-End. The youth were able to make approximately $890.00 for the summer of 2016.
